What good is having a really great web site if no one sees it? None. If you want people to see your site, you have to advertise it. There are people that say that the best place to advertise web sites are Usenet and site directories, but I think that the only place you really need to advertise you site with is the search engines. Search engines get the most hits of any type of site. There are two types of search engines, regular search engines, which keep their own database to search from, and meta-search engines, which search from the databases of several other search engines. If you submit your site with the regular search engines, you can automatically be found in the meta-search engines. So, the first step is to find the homepages for at least five search engines. The more engines you submit your site to, the more hits you will get. On the search engine homepage, there should be a link saying something like Submit Site or Add a Link. The link will take you to a form requesting the site's address, your name, email address, and a description of the site. (Some search engines only take the site's address, while others require lots of information) If you don't want to take the time to go to several pages to fill out forms, there are services which submit it for you, some for free. Below is a list of the submit pages for ten of the most important search engines. Below it is a list of site submission services. Search Engines
