About the Site

Natives of the Midnight Sun web-site is a comprehensive account of life in Alaska through the eyes of its people. It was created for a contest called ThinkQuest. Our intention was to cover the subject of Alaska through an interdisciplinary approach.

Constructed by two Alaska school districts and separated by 500 miles, information was gathered by students and collaborated through a special program which allowed students and coaches to view each other's computer screens, chat, talk, share files, and control each other's computers. Students also traveled back and forth to each other's schools three times via airplane, where several days were spent planning, creating, and experiencing new places.

The three team members were:

Ben Kirk -

Created most of the graphics, titles, roll-over buttons, CGI scripts, and site organization. Ben is very interested in computers as a career and has donated a large portion of his summer working on this project.

JeNel Holt-

JeNel is very good at gathering information, compiling, and presenting it in the written format. She compiled most of the stories and interviews on the site.

Amber Costello-

Amber has a way of taking what has been written by Ben and Amber, and adding a professional touch. She is very descriptive, articulate, and helps portray a sense of meaning.

The Two Coaches were:

David Brannan-

David is Delta High School's computer and science teacher. He has been teaching for five years and thoroughly enjoys his work. He spent a fair amount of time teaching the three team members how to use the programs to create this site.

Jeff Holt-

Jeff is Bettles' only teacher and acting principal. He has been teaching school two years and has seven children of his own making up over half of Bettles Field School's population. Jeff is a wonderful planner and was able to network with several people and organizations to pull together resources.
